In 1993 an explosives laden truck detonated in the centers underground parking garage, killing six and injuring hundreds. This relates to the 9/11 attacks because this incident happened in the parking garage for the twin towers, but didn't make much damage as was planned to. All this lead up to the final destruction of the towers in 2001.
What/How?
Airplanes were hijacked and used as flying bombs. They were flown into the twin towers by a group of terrorists. The terrorists entered the planes as if they were normal passengers, and eventually got to the controls of the planes. They flew them to the targets of the twin towers. They didn't have any weapons except some knives, and that's it.
Where?
This happened at the twin towers of the World Trade Center, in Manhattan, New York. 2 planes were flown into each of the towers. Another plane was flown into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C moments after. Lastly, another plane was aimed for the capitol, but crashed in Pennsylvania only 15 minutes away from the target.
When?
This happened on a day we all like to call September 11, 2001. This happened on a Tuesday morning, when there wasn't a lot of people at the towers, compared to how many there usually is. All of the attacks happened before 10:00am.
Who?
A series of terrorist attackers were involved in the plane hijacking. Osama Bin Laden was the master-mind behind all of this. He would tell everyone what to do and where to go, and he wanted the twin towers destroyed. He was from Islam. His terrorists involved Al-Queda in the attacks.
Why?
This happened because the terrorists intended to damage the World Trade Centers. They wanted to destroy prominent symbols of American power. They felt that if they went after the twin towers, because they were so significant to the U.S, that it would strongly effect the United States. Usually when attacks are planned, people want to go after buildings that are very important to a country, or something that symbolizes that country. For the United States, the twin towers were the main targets.
Results/Effects?
The results and effects of this were tragic. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people. After the attacks, Bush made a law where all airports had very good security systems, which checked each person going through extremely well, to make sure they had nothing with them. None of this would have happened if the towers weren't attacked, but since they were, Bush felt that we needed more secure airports and airplanes. Also, afterwards the United States declared a war on terrorism to occur against Islam because of what they did to them.
